Core Treatment Approaches
-

Radically Open Dialectical Behavior Therapy (RO-DBT)
Enhancing Emotional Expression—RO-DBT is a form of DBT developed for disorders characterized by excessive self-control or overcontrol, and teaches the importance of openness, flexibility, and direct communication. LiftWell incorporates RO-DBT to help clients relax stringent control and behaviors, fostering more genuine emotional expressions and social connections. For younger clients, RO-DBT provides structured opportunities to practice emotional openness and social skills in age-appropriate ways within peer groups.
-

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Mastering Thought Patterns—CBT is a widely recognized treatment approach that focuses on identifying and changing negative thought patterns that contribute to maladaptive behaviors. It is effective for treating depression, anxiety, and eating disorders. At LiftWell, CBT helps clients build practical skills to challenge unhelpful thoughts, develop healthier habits, and improve emotional regulation and problem-solving strategies. Sessions also emphasize real-world application, allowing clients to practice and reinforce these tools in their daily lives.
-

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
Balancing Emotions and Behaviors—DBT is an evidence-based therapy that emphasizes the psychosocial aspects of treatment. Originally developed to treat borderline personality disorder, it has proven effective for treating a range of issues, including eating disorders, mood disorders, and suicidal ideation. DBT at LiftWell focuses on four key areas: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. Clients also learn how to navigate conflict, set boundaries, and build healthier relationships through structured skill development.
-

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Living a Values-Oriented Life—ACT is a form of cognitive-behavioral therapy that uses acceptance and mindfulness strategies, mixed in different ways with commitment and behavior-change strategies, to increase psychological flexibility. At LiftWell, ACT helps clients accept what is out of their personal control and commit to actions that enrich their life based on their values and interests.
-

Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)
Confronting Fears Directly—ERP is considered the gold standard for OCD treatment. It involves exposure to thoughts, images, objects, and situations that make a person anxious or trigger obsessions. Following exposure, clients are asked to refrain from the compulsive behaviors they typically perform to reduce the anxiety. This modality is effective in significantly reducing compulsive behaviors over time.
-

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
Processing Trauma—EMDR is a psychotherapy treatment that was originally designed to alleviate the distress associated with traumatic memories. At LiftWell, EMDR therapy shows that the mind can heal from psychological trauma much as the body recovers from physical trauma. This modality is especially beneficial for those with PTSD or other trauma-related disorders.
Mindfulness Practices
Grounding in the Present for Lasting Growth — At LiftWell we approach mindfulness as a way of reconnecting with yourself and the world around you. By cultivating presence and awareness, mindfulness allows clients to observe thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations without judgment, helping them respond thoughtfully rather than react impulsively. This practice can be deeply transformative, especially for those struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, or eating disorders.
Incorporating Mindfulness into Healing — Mindfulness is woven throughout our programs, offering clients tools to manage stress, regulate emotions, and build resilience. From guided breathing exercises to mindful eating practices, clients develop skills that support healing both in and outside of therapy sessions. These techniques can be practiced anywhere—during a meal, a walk, or a quiet moment alone—reinforcing recovery in real life.
At LiftWell, mindfulness isn’t just about slowing down, it’s about creating space for clarity, growth, and connection. It’s a practice that clients take with them, offering stability and presence as they navigate life beyond treatment.
A Multi-Modal Approach to Recovery
Recovery requires more than a single intervention, it requires a thoughtful integration of evidence-based therapies that address thoughts, behaviors, emotions, and relationships. At LiftWell, we combine proven modalities like CBT, DBT, RO-DBT, ACT, and exposure work with mindfulness practices and community-based learning to build the skills needed for lasting change.
